The Scary River project started in October 2007 after James Wolff moved back from Brooklyn to Baltimore after recording the Super Volcano EP for the 2007 CMJ NYC music festival to finish his Bachelors degree in Composition at Peabody Conservatory. James began working with Adam Scanlon in an atmospheric shoe-gaze duet project with keyboards, violins, guitars, and delay pedals. In January they relocated to the Copy Cat building in Baltimore, and began preparing a new 7 track EP at the Black Rock East Arts Collective (Book Eater, 2008).They performed their set for local artist Brady Starr's gallery opening at the Lo-Fi Social Club in March. In March, Kenny Sanders (Diemonsterdie) joined the group with live drums to augment their electronic beats and Dave Underhill (Suits) began adding new keyboard and guitar parts to Hurricane Machine and Ghost.
In April 08 the quartet moved into a new practice space to write and record new material for a Joe Dombrowski's senior Peabody Recording project. Their lyrics focus on stories that depict surreal scenes of serendipity, for example "Hurricane Machine" is an allegory of two bottles lost at sea in the middle of a hurricane, and "Ghost" tells us a story about the haunting of an old building, copycat residents familiar with the building will hear several references. James also sings and plays Keyboards and Violin in Lab Inc's Labianca with Kenny and Slade Mankins, and they are writing and recording a new full length LP. James is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory Composition department, and labinc Records is distributed through Morphius Records.
